Tanager is a one-acre vegetable and flower CSA farm in Corbett, OR, operated by Brindley, Spencer, and Adrienne. Since 2016, they have been growing delicious, nutritious food for the community while nurturing the farm as a space for learning and collaboration. In addition to the CSA, they prioritize seed keeping work, farmer organizing, and a free meal community meal program.While walking the farm, Spencer will share about the vegetable and flower operations and the interrelational seed-keeping projects. This workshop will explore the vital benefits of seed keeping and how to integrate seed saving into a market farm. We'll take a close look at some of Tanager’s seed crops– including corn, beans, squash, and melons- and have the opportunity to take part in a hands-on activity.At the end of this workshop, an engaged participant will be able to:Explain the key benefits of seed keeping and its role in building a resilient, sustainable farm operationRecognize the growth stages and seed-saving considerations for specific cropsDemonstrate basic seed-saving techniques through hands-on practice.Describe how seed keeping connects to broader values of community resilience and local food sovereigntyThis opportunity does come with a stipend.
