Understanding ourselves from our earliest relationships...
Why do we relate the way we do?
From childhood bonds (or lack thereof), to our adult relationships, our first relationships with our caregivers had a lasting impact and influence on our current relationships. How can we heal from wounds, neglect, misattunement, or misunderstandings from our early attachment patterns?
Join Low Entropy and Internal Family Systems practitioner Islena Faircrest at the library for a workshop on how Attachment Theory (our early attachments) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) help us understand our relationship patterns.
Attachment Theory shows us how our early bonds with our caregivers shaped our nervous system and behaviors today. Each attachment style—secure, anxious, avoidant, or disorganized (fearful avoidant)—carries strengths as well as wounds that reflect unmet needs for safety, consistency, care, and love.
IFS adds another layer by showing how these attachment wounds live on as protective parts within us. Rather than judging or pathologizing (making unhealthy or wrong), IFS invites curiosity and compassion for the parts that guard against abandonment, rejection, or overwhelm. Together, these frameworks offer us clarity, compassion, and understanding towards recognizing and befriending our protective strategies, while opening up to more secure and connected ways of being.
