VOICES OF THE WORLD 18. OKTOBER I CINEMATEKET
En global fest i ord, toner, billeder - og smag!

Den 18. oktober slår Arabian Nights-festivalen og organisationen Crossing Borders et fælles slag for interkulturel forståelse. Crossing Borders fylder i år 20 år og har inviteret et imponerende lineup af kunstnere, politikere, formidlere og aktivister til København. Målet er at mindske sociale, kulturelle, akademiske og fysiske grænser i verden – at hylde mangfoldigheden og alsidigheden.

Dagen byder på tre segmenter med talks iblandet korte digte, film, musik og andre kunstneriske islæt. Der er separat billetbestilling til de tre dele (80/50 kr. per del).

I tidsrummet kl. 13-23 er der liv og farver i Asta Bar - bl.a. med fotoshow, global buffet og gratis koncert!

KL. 14.30: VOICES OF THE WORLD: POETRY, CARTOONS AND HUMAN RIGHTS

Oplev en kosmopolitisk forsamling af kunstnere, der hver især og i forskellige medier reflekterer over temaet ’at krydse grænser’. Der er poetry slam ved digter Sara Rahmeh (Syrien), præsentation af satirekunst ved tegner og kommentator Khalid Wad Albaih (Sudan) og fotoforedrag ved forfatter og fotograf Jacob Holdt (Danmark). Desuden er der personlige oplæg ved ambassadør Zindzi N. Mandela (Sydafrika) og ved journalist og analytiker Hana Al-Khamri (Saudi Arabien). Moderator: Journalist Susanne Gargiul (Danmark).

KL. 16.45 / SEEKING REFUGE Talk og film

Den dansk-kurdiske forfatter Sara Omar (bl.a. kendt for bestselleren ’Dødevaskeren’, 2017) vil fortælle om menneskeflugten fra Syrien som optakt til Estephan Wagner og Marianne Hougen-Moragas rørende kortfilm ’Sea of Sorrow - Sea of Hope’ om Manal Tahhan og hendes families rejse til Danmark. Moderator: Journalist Susanne Gargiulo (Danmark).

Aftenens sidste ’Voices of the World’-segment rummer digte og talk ved digteren Lesley Ann Brown (Trinidad), standup ved entreprenør og komiker Sadhia Mengal (Pakistan, foredrag ved uddannelsesantropolog og blogger Mary Tesfay (Danmark/Eritrea) samt atletikudøver Rikke Rønholt (Danmark/Ghana). Desuden er der kortfilm med introduktion ved Divya Shrestha (Nepal) og korsang ved Verdens Sirener, der synger på alverdens sprog samtidig! Moderator: Journalist Susanne Gargiulo (Danmark).

ABOUT THE EVENT:
-----------------------

In celebrating Crossing Borders 20th anniversary, we also promote unity in diversity, intercultural meeting and international exchange toward realizing our common humanity and mutual dependency in a truly global community.

This celebration offers a unique opportunity for the CB national coordinators and alumni from across the globe to reunite and share experiences from their lives. It is also an occasion for people who aspire and cherish a globalized world in which diversity is celebrated as an asset to join the CB community of global citizens.

Therefore, all CB coordinators, alumni, members and friends are warmly invited to the event on 18th October 2019 at 14-22.00.

The event is in collaboration with the Cinemateket of the Danish Film Institute in Copenhagen which will provide the space for the celebration. The event will be global, intercultural and fun. It will comprise, speeches, songs, debates, dance, films, slam poetry, highlights of CB work and achievements. While the event will be fun, we will address current pressing global issues of CB focus: human rights, climate change, youth participation, migration, intercultural co-existence, storytelling, and peaceful resolution of conflicts. We will have food from 20 different countries prepared by people from those countries.

Crossing Borders Patron, HE Ambassador Zindzi Mandela (the daughter Nelson and Winnie Mandela) and CB Life Ambassador of Goodwill bestseller author Sara Omar will head the celebration.

Moreover, Author Lesley-Ann Brown (Trinidad), journalist Hana Al-Khameri (Yemen/Saudi Arabia), slam Poet Sara Rahmeh (Syria), entrepreneur and stand up speaker Sadhia Mengal (Pakistan), Educational Anthropologist and debater Mary Tesfay (Eritrea).
Cartoonist and political artist Khalid Wad Albaih (Saudi Arabia) and author and photograph Jacob Holdt (Denmark) and photo Kannan P Samy (India) have confirmed their participation.
