UPcycle your old clothes! May 2019
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Bring your old clothes, we will make something new out o them!
Or we can just teach you how to use a sewing machine and fix them by yourself to be more resilient! You can even use our materials and experiment some upcycling design!
All second hand textiles, old clothes, leftovers fabrics and soft materials in general that are meant to be thrown away will be redesigned to create upcycled products you will love again!
Together with our team of designers and upcyclers we will give a second life to unwanted discarded resources.
ABOUT COLLABORATIVE FACTORY CONCEPT:
Collaborative Factory is a participatory design experiment started in Materiale Centralen during Summer/Fall 2018.
From Jenuary 2019 we are now meeting once a month in Copenhagen Fab Lab for an open workshop day to learn together how to approach to upcycling techniques and how to make a real social impact with it.
The aim of the "Collaborative Factory, skills sharing platform" is to spread knowledge and education to promote sustainable behaviours and ecodesign techniques for everyone.
Our team believes that there is more in Materiale Centralen than only collecting and providing materials and the Collaborative Factory concept, shows that a sustainable circularity is possible.
What Materiale Centralen team and volunteers believe in is a network of creative people, a social and environmental-oriented community that provides an alternative and sustainable approach, to share common values in Valby and the city of Copenhagen.
ABOUT MATERIALE CENTRALEN:
Materiale Centralen has been a pilot project inside the ARC recycling centre of Vasbygade 26, Sydhavn, beginning during fall 2015 until fall 2018, at the end of Materiale Centralen contract with Kbh Kommune as part of the Guldminen Experiment.
For three years of activities, the role of Materiale Centralen was to be the mediator between the recycling station materials and the public to create a new circular model rather than a linear one, where waste is not considered as common trash anymore but as precious raw material still usable and full of high potential to create new products without exploiting natural resources anymore. In this way resources are optimized, coming bach to the "prosumer" and nothing is lost.
Our main taget groups were: sustainable local initatives, environmental projects, architecture studios, design studios, festivals, artists, makers, theaters and everyone interested in giving to trashed resources a second chance and “life” and new value.
Our mottos are "Trash to Treasure" and "Trash is the new Gold".
Today Materiale Centralen is part of Kraftwerket and Copenhagen FabLab as a "United Recyclers Collective" of inspiring people working to spread an educational message about sustainable living and reusability .
Kraftwerket and Fab Lab Copenhagen represent a fertile field for social activities, community-based projects providing a good network where the ideas of sustainable living in communities can be explored and expanded. The main challenge is making people aware of the number of materials wasted in the actual consumption system, the quantity of energy, time and human resources invested during the industrial production process.
