JONAS OLSSON
Pianist Jonas Olsson studied with Hans Pålsson at the Gothenburg Academy of Music, where he made his debut in 2007 with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in Ravel's Concerto for the Left Hand. After a year as a fellow at the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt he returned to Germany to study contemporary piano music at the Cologne Academy of Music with Pierre-Laurent Aimard.

Jonas Olsson has performed several times at the Lucerne Festival, as soloist in Répons and Sur Incises by Boulez conducted by the composer, as well as Messiaen’s Des canyons aux étoiles. Other notable performances include an acclaimed series of concerts with the complete Boulez piano sonatas at the 2015 Klang Festival in Copenhagen and a portrait concert with piano works by Rebecca Saunders at the 2016 Aldeburgh Festival.

Jonas' repertoire includes the most important solo works by composers such as Boulez, Stockhausen, Messiaen, Berio, Nono, Ligeti, Carter, Lachenmann, Ferneyhough and Sciarrino. Equally important is his commitment to a younger generation of composers, often in close collaboration on exploring new playing techniques. Since autumn 2016 Jonas has been employed as pianist and repetiteur at Norrlandsoperan in Umeå.

He's current with the critically acclaimed album "Helmut Lachenmann Complete Piano Works", which was featured (and given the highest rating) in a recent episode of Swedish Radio's Musikrevyn: https://www.sverigesradio.se/avsnitt/dodsforaktande-pianospel-med-braddjup-och-humor.

This evening he'll perform 'Wiegenmusik, Ein Kinderspiel' by Lachenmann (who have described him as an "incredible pianist and ideal interpreter of my music") along with Morton Feldman’s ‘Piano' and 'to an utterance – study' by Rebecca Saunders.

JULI DEÁK
The Polish-Hungarian flutist and saxophonist Juli Deák (*2000) bridges classical, contemporary, and jazz music through tender melodic lines, circular breathing, and percussive effects. She is a former student of the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Krzysztof Penderecki Music Academy in Kraków and Bartók Béla Jazz Conservatory.

Her sound is deeply rooted in the classical tradition while embracing experimentation, improvisation and folk influences. For many years, her artistic work has explored the physical and expressive limits of the flute—circular breathing, breath sounds, and singing while playing. This research has culminated in her current solo project, The Breathing Project, which releases April 24th, 2026 on a seven track LP and CD on Thanatosis. under the title Brisk.

Deák has collaborated with ensembles such as KammarensembleN, Konstmusiksystrar, JazzaJ, and the VENI ensemble, and has performed at festivals including Norbergfestival, Ung Nordisk Musik, Vill Vill Vest, and MENT Ljubljana. Her other project, Haldamas x Hulajdusza, merges jazz with traditional folk music, reflecting her commitment to cultural fusion and innovation.

ELLE-KARI / MARTIN KÜCHEN / ALEX ZETHSON – THE DEATH OF KALYPSO
The Death of Kalypso is a surreal, genre-bending opera, where the jazz group Angles meets strings and singer Elle-Kari Sander. Timeless melodies meet explosive improvisation and skewed drone. The album The Death of Kalypso, released on Thanatosis in the spring of 2024, won the 2025 Manifestgalepris award in the jazz category. This evening, we will hear the songs in a scaled-down version with the project's core trio: Martin Küchen, Elle-Kari, and Alex Zethson.

Elle-Kari Sander was a member of the band The Tiny, which released three albums and toured extensively both in Sweden and abroad in early 2000s. After The Tiny, she started the band The Other Woman, which made an acclaimed jazz album. She has sung on a variety of songs with other artists and toured the world several times with colleagues such as Ane Brun and Anna Ternheim.

Martin Küchen is one of the most important voices in Swedish jazz and improvised music. Since 2000, he has toured and performed in Scandinavia and Europe with artists such as Phil Minton, Sirone, Mark Sanders, Burkhard Beins, Andrea Neumann, Tony Wren, Cloudchamber, Tony Bevan, Luc Houtkamp, and Joe Williamson, and not least with Angles, Threnody, and Trespass Trio. Two of his solo albums have been released on Thanatosis: Det försvunnas namn and Utopia.

Alex Zethson has been active as a touring musician since 2009, when he graduated from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and began playing with the free jazz sextet Je Suis! In addition to solo projects and his own ensembles, he is a member of Angles, Goran Kajfes Tropiques, Dennis Egberth Dynasty, Vilhelm Bromander Unfolding Orchestra, among others. He has also played regurlarly with artists such as Sven Wunder, Amanda Bergman, and Mariam the Believer. Since 2017, he has collaborated frequently with Fire! Orchestra and is part of their latest WORDS production, as well as the two previous ones (Arrival and Echoes). In 2016 he founded Thanatosis.
