Frente Cumbiero er de ubestridte fakkelbærere inden for neo-cumbiaen. Gruppen har i næsten to årtier hentet den oprindelige genre fra Colombias caribiske kyster ind i nutiden og i den grad udvidet grænserne for cumbiaen og holdt den relevant. Bandnavnet, der egentlig betyder ‘cumbia broder’, henviser til frontmand Mario Galeano Toro, der i øvrigt står bag grupper som Ondatrópica og Los Pirañas, som vi også har haft glæden af på ALICE.

Når Frente Cumbiero går på scenen kan man forvente en solid tropisk festmusik båret frem af dubbede elektroniske sekvenser, energiske percussionforløb, luftige blæsertemaer og guacharaca loops, som er helt karakteristiske for netop cumbiaen. Det er en musik, som tager publikum med på, hvad der føles som en uendelig rejse ud i cumbiaens mange afkroge. En musik, der får hjertet til at hoppe, pulsen til at galoppere og kroppen i bevægelse. Siden deres første udgivelse i 2009 har Frente Cumbiero turneret verden tynd, spillet på scener som Fuji Rock, MoMA, Roskilde Festival, Estéreo Picnic og Sónar, og samarbejdet med dub-kongen Mad Professor og Minyo Crusaders. Frente Cumbiero will transform ALICE into an endless tropical dance party when they take the stage this October with their deeply relevant take on cumbia. They delivered an unforgettable concert here in 2018, and now they return to take audiences on another sonic journey to Colombia’s Caribbean coast with their powerful new album Inconcreto & Asociados (2025).

Frente Cumbiero are the undisputed torchbearers of neo-cumbia. For nearly two decades, the group has brought the traditional genre from Colombia’s Caribbean coast into the present, boldly expanding the boundaries of cumbia while keeping it vibrant and relevant. The band’s name, which loosely translates as “cumbia brother,” refers to frontman Mario Galeano Toro, who is also the driving force behind groups such as Ondatrópica and Los Pirañas—both of whom we’ve also had the pleasure of presenting at ALICE.

When Frente Cumbiero takes the stage, expect a full-blown tropical celebration driven by dubbed-out electronic sequences, energetic percussion, airy horn melodies, and the unmistakable guacharaca loops that define cumbia.
