# Event Details

- **Event Name**: Bad Women Book Club - Sociopath: A Memoir
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 07 Dec, 2025 at 04:00 pm
- **Event Description**: We are very excited to return for a fourth season of Bad Women!

This time, we are featuring three titles by British, Canadian, and American authors. You can find their descriptions below.

At our book club, we love sharing thoughts, feelings, and interpretations of works that explore fresh, transgressive takes on ‘bad women’ protagonists — characters who are framed as, or whom we consider, part of this category.

Whether you join one meet-up, two, or all of them, and whether you have read just a chapter or finished the book twice, you are always warmly welcome.

The books will be available for purchase at our bookshop. If you would like us to reserve a copy for you, send us a message!

Fundamentally by Nussaibah Younis (2025)

When academic Nadia is disowned by her puritanical mother and dumped by her lover, she decides to make a getaway, accepting a job at the UN in Iraq. Tasked with rehabilitating ISIS women, Nadia becomes mired in the opaque world of international aid, surrounded by bumbling colleagues. But then Nadia meets Sara, a precocious and sweary East Londoner who joined ISIS at just fifteen, and she is struck by how similar their stories are. Both from a Muslim background, both feisty and opinionated, with a shared love of Dairy Milk and rude pick-up lines, Sara and Nadia immediately connect and a powerful friendship forms. When Sara confesses a secret, Nadia is forced to make a difficult choice.

Oh Honey by Emily R. Austin (2017)

Jane is a telemarketer. She uses a different name each time, and soon it becomes clear that she is calling the same man again and again. Each call is a new battle between them, with him becoming angrier and more threatening. But Jane isn’t calling him at random; Jane has a purpose; and Jane has a past which seems to change each time she tells it.

Sociopath: A Memoir by Patric Gagne (2024)

Diagnosed as a sociopath, Patric Gagne was born without typical emotions like fear, guilt, or empathy — and felt it long before she had a name for it. Her early life was marked by risky, even criminal behavior, all in a quest for emotional fulfillment. In college, her diagnosis confirmed what she’d always suspected — and brought with it a grim prognosis: no treatment, no hope. But when she reconnects with an old flame, she glimpses the possibility of love and a new kind of life. Gagne’s memoir challenges the stigma of sociopathy and reclaims a narrative of hope, connection, and transformation.
