About the event

3daysofdesign at the French Embassy - "French Fiber: Spotlight on French textile design
Discover the best of contemporary French textile design at the French Embassy in Denmark during 3daysofdesign!

During the festival, the French Embassy in Denmark opens the doors of the Thott Palace in the heart of Copenhagen and presents a varied selection of remarkable textile design pieces (contemporary tapestries, textile objects, furniture) in its richly decorated historical reception rooms.

“French Fiber” blends works by emerging and confirmed French designers, and ambitions to display the diversity and richness of French contemporary creation in the field of textile art. The exhibited designers are Mona Cara, Aude Franjou, Samuel Grossmann, Aurélie Mathigot, Simone Pheulpin, and Jean-Luc Parant. These contemporary works establish a dialogue with the Thott Palace’s beautiful interior decorations and furniture, which date back to the 17th and 18th centuries, and are elegantly integrated in these unique surroundings.

Through institutions such as the Manufactures nationales, founded in 1604, France has managed to preserve a whole range of traditional skills and craft techniques that are unique in the world. The aim of the exhibition is to highlight the importance of preserving these skills, and to show how they are still relevant today.

The exhibition takes place in the context of a particularly dense period in terms of French-Danish exchanges in the field of design and craftsmanship, with the recent delivery of the exceptional ensemble of 16 tapestries commissioned by the New Carlsberg Foundation and the Danish Royal Collection to the French Manufactures nationales, which were unveiled by Their Majesties King Frederik and Queen Mary at the Gobelins manufacture during their State visit in Paris on April 1st, and the 25 years-jubilee of the Christiansborg tapestries designed by Danish artist Bjørn Nørgaard and woven at the Manufactures nationales.
