Flights: The Belfast International Airport (BFS) is more convenient to Cookstown than Belfast City Airport (BHD), and drivers from Cookstown can be arranged to come get you from BFS (see attached taxi list). Belfast is ~OK to see. The City Bus tour in Belfast takes about an hour. Maybe do it on your way out. You can still fly home from BFS after visiting Belfast. There’s always Dublin too, but not easy to get to Cookstown without a car rental. You should not need a rental car if lying into BFS, but a US Drivers License is all that is required to rent one as long as you are OK with driving on the other side of the road. Taxis into Cookstown are ~$5 from the Glenavon. There is a supermarket grocery right up the street from the Glenavon. There would likely be a cost to register and attend – to cover the Conference venue, catered Saturday lunch, Welcome Reception and Happy Hour appetizers, tour busses and speakers. I will not handle any financials in order to ensure no money-making scheme here. Neither would I coordinate this whole thing. We would need people to step up to take charge of single, individual tasks, like nametags, tour busses, Saturday Lunch, … I would recommend a Chair Team (not me) with at least one from each Family (1a & 1b). Some other guidelines that I would recommend: No merchandise solicitation of any kind. No tartans, crests, T-Shirts, etc… Promote an atmosphere of McCord unity. No Scotland vs Ireland animosity. Our Families were one - long before modern politics, flags and national boundaries. Let’s work together to see what we can uncover together about our common paternal ancestors. This might also promote awareness and interest from local McCords who never left the Old Country to participate in our McCord Y DNA Project.
