Art, Books & Good Coffee: A Very Coochie Fundraiser
If you’ve been eyeing off the beautiful paintings popping up around the island and wondering what the library crew are up to, here’s the scoop.
Our library volunteers, Pam and Christine, have organised a very Coochie-style fundraiser: original local art, good company, a lucky draw, and plenty of tea, coffee and nibbles.
Save the date
Friday 13 December
From 12.30 pm, draw starts 1.30 pm
Where: The Annex Room next to the Coochiemudlo Island Library
The annex will be transformed into a cosy little art space for the afternoon. From 12.30 pm you can wander in, admire the artworks, buy your fundraiser ticket and settle in with a cuppa. Expect a relaxed, social afternoon with a bit of music and plenty of time to chat and enjoy the vibe.
The lucky art draw kicks off at 1.30 pm.
How the lucky art draw works
Forget the boring raffles where one person walks away with the lot. This one is much more fun.
Here’s how it works:
Buy one or (preferably) more $5 fundraiser tickets
All tickets go into the draw
When your number is drawn, you choose the artwork you want
First number gets first pick, second gets second pick, and so on
Everyone keeps choosing until all the artworks have new homes
If someone’s number is drawn and they’re not there, a volunteer will choose a piece for them from what’s left. Yes, you can win without being present — but you won’t get to pick your favourite.
Why the library needs our help
Most of the new books on those shelves have been bought by the volunteers themselves. They’ve also spent previous funds on refurbishing shelves and keeping the space welcoming.
The piggy bank is running low, and it’s time for the community to step in.
The fundraiser goal is $1,000, which will go straight toward new books. Many donated artworks are valued at $400–$600, which is incredibly generous — and we need to honour that generosity by selling plenty of tickets.
Where to get tickets
You can:
Buy them in person at the Library during open times (Saturdays 9–12)
Contact Pam on 0400 016 773 and reserve your tix
Catch Christine at the Christmas Markets on 29 November
Look out for volunteers selling tickets around the island
At $5 each, even grabbing a handful helps.
Posters, door knocks and jetty chats
Expect to see posters around the island — at the jetty, ferry, cafés and other hot spots.
You might also get a friendly door knock. Coochie-style fundraising is personal, a bit old-school and surprisingly effective. If you don’t want to wait, just give Pam a buzz and ask how you can help.
