Death and Drinks at Constable Hall
Saturday, October 25th | 3:00 – 6:00 PM
Step back in time and experience Halloween with a Victorian twist at Constable Hall!
The afternoon begins at 3:00 PM with a captivating presentation by Carl Trainor. Blending history, storytelling, and tradition, Carl will explore Victorian and other cultural death rituals, and how they have shaped the way we think about and deal with death today. Weather permitting, Carl’s presentation will be held on the verandah (where drinks will be served).
Following the talk, step into the drawing room to view a Victorian wake exhibit staged by Carl, complete with antique funeral equipment. From there, join a candlelight tour of the Hall, where you’ll encounter “dead” Victorian authors who rise from the grave to read excerpts of their chilling works. Hear Mary Shelley bring Frankenstein to life and Edgar Allan Poe unearth the haunting words of The Tell-Tale Heart.
Drinks will be available by donation throughout the afternoon — the perfect companion for this eerie yet elegant experience.
