April is a sensitive and adventurous ten-year old who is on summer vacation and looking to make friends while coming to terms with her traumatic home life in the rural town of Eastville, Virginia. When she meets a small but tough girl named Wixie with a voice like an angel, the two become instant best friends. Finding a bag full of money is just the beginning of their adventure together as they make friends with an Amish boy named Jared who also loves to sing and gets them to come to his community’s weekly singing groups. Wixie’s wild ways may be more than anybody can handle though as April begins to see that life is complicated and full of heartbreak.
