NICK FALWELL -- “NO RELATION”
Tissue Farm -- Oct 2-Nov 17, 2025
Artist Reception -- Saturday, October 11, 5-7pm
The entirety of “No Relation” explores themes of absence, alienation and abandonment. These themes are hinged on a will to pursue beauty and wryly resist entropy as we create new narratives through sights unseen. The depth of feeling that has gone into these pieces is immense and I am grateful for the opportunity to share them with you.
Nick is a sculptor, animator and sound maker based in Pittsburgh, PA USA. Growing up in Huntsville, Alabama (Rocket City, USA) his work is obsessed with time and gravity. His sculptures, animations and works on paper are investigations of humanity's fundamental misunderstanding of time.
Time varies with gravity: a rule of physics we neglect to acknowledge in most observations of life. Our perspective in time is locked at sea level or near to it. What is the age of the universe from the perspective of a star? What is the age of the universe from the perspective of a black hole?
Celestial bodies that have long since moved, modulated or expired clog our observations of a cosmic “now”. In our daily lives, we are at the mercy of a gravity we do not understand. Nick seeks to explore these phenomena by imposing the emotional content of his day-to-day human experience upon time-lapse, stop-motion and processed-based art practices.
