RETRO MATSURI was first conceived of by our founders while they were loading equipment out of another anime convention, called “Another Anime Convention“, which was at the time held in New Hampshire. The vision was simple: a convention where we looked to the roots and origins of anime and video games, which have become a pop cultural phenomenon but which were once relegated to the outskirts of society.
No, no, we’re not saying we want to go back to the outskirts. It rocks that Megan Thee Stallion likes My Hero Academia. It’s good to be in the mainstream. But for two days, we’re loading up the old school stuff and stepping back into elementary school weekends to relive a bygone era.
Here's some things you might enjoy at RETRO MATSURI:
- Live music from Sam Mulligan and Lame Genie
- Laserdisc Karaoke
- Panels about anime & pop culture of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and early 00s
- A huge retro video game room
- Retro AMVs
- Ibuprofen available at registration
- Cash bar on Friday night
- Vendors selling goods
- Artists selling arts
- Board games in boxes that are barely staying together
- And more, probably!
