- **Event Description**: Experience one of Texas’s most captivating landscapes on this 8-mile moderate hike along the dramatic canyon rims of Seminole Canyon State Park. This trip blends adventure, history, and unforgettable views into one incredible day.


We’ll kick off the afternoon at 12:00pm with the renowned White Shaman Guided Tour (See: https://www.wittemuseum.org/white-shaman-preserve/), an immersive exploration of ancient rock art and the region’s prehistoric cultural history. After the tour, we’ll head into the park to check in, set up camp, and prepare for our hike.


Our route follows the Canyon Rim Trail, offering sweeping views of rugged desert terrain and the sheer limestone walls that make this park so iconic. The highlight of the day comes as we watch the sunset over the Rio Grande, with the river winding between Texas and Mexico below us. It’s a moment that feels both serene and timeless.


Because we’ll be returning to camp after sunset, a headlamp is required - and the twilight hike back only adds to the adventure.


This is the perfect outing for hikers who love history, big scenery, and a dash of desert magic.


Also, you might want to take a side trip to the Pecos River High Bridge, only 10 minutes from the park. It’s a great sight to take in with some excellent photo opportunities.


Pro tip: Additionally, TPWD offers a guided Fate Bell Shelter Tour on Sunday at 12:00pm if you want to hike down into the Seminole Canyon and learn more about the rock art there.

- Reservations: They are available online from https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/, 30 days prior to the event for a day pass, and 5 months prior for camping reservations. See the shared Google Calendar (https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0?cid=ZGU0NjNhMzkxNzBhNGQ2MjUyZTBhMGFiODgyNDFmNDM4ZjAzYmFlMTNkNTczZjM2NTViNDk2NDc5NTc0YmJiMUBncm91cC5jYWxlbmRhci5nb29nbGUuY29t) which has all of the scheduled events, and event reminders about obtaining passes. Make sure you print them out and bring them with you to make your trip a smooth one!


- Waiver/Release: Make sure you fill out a waiver/release form (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vdhCDW7bpvdlmnkPrV_n0iUwR_7QB7GRvBBT1tLWlKY/edit?usp=sharing) and either send it to me as a PDF (Facebook messenger is fine), or print it out and bring it with you. I will have blanks available at the start of the event if you forget. However, you WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to join the adventure without one being completed!


- What to bring?: Required items are - A positive attitude, at least 3L of water, and snacks. Nice to have things are - Personal first aid kit, electrolytes, hiking poles, head covering and/or sunscreen.
