This Enduro is put on by the Razorback Riders Motorcycle Club and is part of the Black Jack Enduro Championships. For the event we have special permission to ride certain single-track sections in the Ozark St. Francis National Forest (Boston Mountains) that are normally closed. These sections are only open for the event. If you are caught there outside of the event, you will be fined. You do not have to join the Black Jack series to participate in this event. All bikes are required to have a forestry approved spark arrestor.
Make it a family event, there is a kids race on Saturday March 28, with classes for all ages.
Format:
For Sunday’s enduro there are seven (7-8) timed ‘tests’ along with transfer sections (like Dakar liaison) between each test. Riders sign up by age range and skill level: A, B, C, with A being the fastest and most experienced. So, if you have never done an Enduro you may want to sign up as B or C. Some of the most difficult tests are designated for A and or B riders only. There is also a short race that includes a fewer number of tests.
The enduro begins early in the morning, around 8:00am and ends mid to late afternoon on one day. The length of the course, including transfers and tests, is approximately 70 miles. A gas trailer leaves camp in the morning and you will pass the trailer twice during the race so bring your gas can. The test sections range from 3 to 8 miles.
Upon registration riders can choose or will be assigned a row number. Typically, there are 4 riders per row. To begin, riders line up by row that leave the start area in one-minute increments. The transfers are not timed, but each subsequent test begins at a specific time. Riders should arrive at the test start prior to their release time. Rows will be released in one-minute increments based on their starting row number. If a rider arrives at a test start after the time their row has been released, they may proceed immediately.
Some riders when registering choose a row up front if available, others may specifically choose a row that is further back (similar to Dakar where some riders don’t want to ‘open’ the section). The trail is marked by arrows and will also include some warning markers, danger or caution indicators where appropriate. You will simply follow the arrows and watch for warning markers. Course workers will be stationed at each test start and end, and certain spots along the course.
If you really want to experience single track riding in the Boston Mountains, this is your opportunity. The Razorback Rider Campground is open for participants to dry camp beginning Friday afternoon before the event. If you have kids that ride, bring them for the Saturday kid’s event. There is no practice allowed on the course. However, you may purchase a one-day pass to the Mill Creek OHV area to check out the local terrain.
