Zeppelin Productions along with Bob Teague and Friends present a special celebration of Guy Clark at Natalie’s Grandview!

The event begins with a screening of documentary Without Getting Killed or Caught that covers the true story of Guy Clark—the dean of Texan songwriters whose distinct, poetic take on American folk and country music elevated him from obscurity to reverence. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter has had his songs covered by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and others. 

Tamara Saviano’s film follows the story of Clark, his wife Susanna Clark, and his friend, singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt with never-before-seen exclusive interviews as Saviano had Clark’s complete cooperation before his death in 2016. Featuring the voice of Sissy Spacek, the film speaks from Susanna Clark’s perspective while offering poignant reflections from Guy Clark’s closest friends and musical allies like Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, Vince Gill, Verlon Thompson, and Terry and Jo Harvey Allen, as well as record executive Barry Poss.

Immediately following the screening, host Alec Wightman (Zeppelin Productions) will be joined in conversation by Tamara Saviano – the filmmaker behind Without Getting Killed or Caught, longtime friend, collaborator and current President and Creative Director of the Guy Clark Foundation.

The Natalie’s kitchen will be cookin’ up something special!
A tasty Texas Cookin’ inspired meal will be available to order along with the full Natalie’s menu. 

And to cap off the evening, a very special performance by Verlon Thompson and Shawn Camp!
It was just another one of Guy Clark’s keen ideas to introduce the “Okie” and “Arkansawyer”. He knew them both well but they didn’t know each other when they all took the stage that night in Little Rock over twenty years ago. With Camp on his left and Thompson on his right, Guy broke into “Texas Cookin’”. When the smoke cleared a couple of hours later, a strong and steady friendship was born.

Thompson continued performing with Guy Clark on the road with Camp joining them when he wasn’t busy writing hit songs and touring behind his own releases. Guy always said he’d “hire Shawn full time if I could afford him!”   

The names Camp and Thompson appear on many Guy Clark recordings as well.

Thompson collaborated with Clark on the title track of the 1992 “Boats to Build” album and shared co-producer credits on several projects including “Workbench Songs” and “Somedays the Song Writes You”, both Grammy nominated for Best Contemporary Folk album.

Camp won the Americana Album of the Year Award for co-producing “This One’s For Him: A Tribute to Guy Clark” and then went on to win a Grammy for producing Clark’s “My Favorite Picture Of You”.
