Rediscover Eastern Market: A Celebration Marking 10 Years After Restoration!
Eastern Market is Washington, DC’s oldest, continually operating, public fresh food market. Located in the heart of the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood, Eastern Market is DC's destination for fresh food, hand-made arts and crafts, and community events. For more than 146 years, Eastern Market has served as a community hub, connecting neighbors, families, and visitors.
In 2007, Eastern Market suffered a devastating early morning fire. The following day, the Mayor pledged to rebuild the damaged market and restore its historic architectural features. The Department of General Services (DGS) led the rebuilding efforts, in partnership with a District-formed public-private partnership including the Eastern Market Community Advisory Committee and the Capitol Hill Community Foundation and Eastern Market reopened to great fanfare in June 2009. Today, from hard to find pastas, local and international cheeses, exquisite jewelry and art, Eastern Market provides an inviting, fun experience for all ages.
DGS invites all community stakeholders and residents to join us for our ‘Rediscover Eastern Market’ Weekend Celebration from June 7th-9th! A special thank you to the community and planing committee for bringing this weekend to life! This celebration is just in time to recognize the 10 year milestone since the building was fully refurbished and restored!
