The Academy of Faith and Leadership is excited to partner with the American Red Cross to offer the Foundations Course of Disaster Relief Spiritual Care!
What? The role of the Disaster Spiritual Care Provider is to assist people in drawing upon their ownspiritual resources–values and faith–in the midst of their pain, regardless of their faith tradition.
Who? Our DSC Providers may be one of the following: a professional chaplain; a board-certifiedchaplain; an individual endorsed by their faith community and meeting specific requirements(defined below).
What does this mean? A chaplain may be ordained in their own religious tradition, butprofessional chaplaincy implies intensive training in meeting the spiritual needs of people in manyreligions, not just that of the chaplain. An endorsed faith leader must have a similar understandingof serving diverse clients. Because spirituality is very personal, and because our clients are vulnerable, Red Cross (in partnership with VOAD) volunteers must be able and willing to support someone from any faith without injecting their own beliefs.
How? Anyone may apply to become a Disaster Spiritual Care Provider. They must submitdocumentation of chaplaincy board-certification, or the documentation required forendorsement
In order to attend this training, you must bring the appropriate documentation with you and complete the American Red Cross volunteer forms ( https://www.redcross.org/volunteer/become-a-volunteer.html
