- **Event Description**: Please join us at Orr Street Studios for an illuminating evening of art and discussion focusing on The Missouri River in the paintings/photography and poems of Carrie Elliott and Brett Dufur, respectively.

Carrie Elliott is a geologist with an interest in the intersection of science and art, both through using art and design to communicate science and in using themes from science and the natural world to inspire art. In her 23-year career at the USGS she has used technology in the field to create high-resolution maps of the bottom of the river to understand river habitats and processes.  As an artist, Carrie has explored a wide variety of art and craft media with an emphasis on fiber arts, sculpture, and printmaking.  She worked for many years creating large-scale thematic installations for the True False Film Fest.  Her latest work reflects on her time spent working, paddling, and camping on the Missouri River, an underappreciated gem of the Midwest.

Author Brett Dufur shares his love of Missouri’s rivers and trails, most notably in his guidebooks, to the Katy and Rock Island Trails. His first collection of poetry, entitled Endless River, flows through river themes inspired by raising his family along the banks of the Missouri River in Rocheport, his time as a river guide on the Missouri (Mighty Mo Canoe Rentals), his time paddling the MR340 multiple times, doing Lewis & Clark reenactments and otherwise falling in love with dozens of cozy and seemingly forgotten river towns. His upcoming poetry collection, Emergence, explores the metaphorical power of the monarch journey, the rich wisdom to be gleaned by that amazing butterfly’s journey against all odds.

Light refreshments will be provided. FREE to attend. Doors open at 6:30 pm and readings/presentations begin at 7 pm, lasting about 20-30 minutes each, with an intermission; speakers will have time for questions after their presentations.

This event is sponsored by the generous support of the Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs and Orr Street Studios, and Missouri River Relief will be a co-host of the event with Orr Street Studios.
