Body-Speech-Mind supervision is a psychotherapy supervision practice aimed towards deepening clinicians' understandings and felt sense of clients, clients’ worlds, and the therapeutic relationships. It bridges Buddhist philosophy with existential, descriptive phenomenological, hermeneutic, and heuristic research traditions. Many traditions of Buddhism conceptualize our human interactions with the world through three primary gates or processes: kāya-kamma (body), vacī-kamma (speech), and mano-kamma (mind). The body-speech-mind inquiry builds upon this structural framework. The psychotherapy supervision practice starts with mindfully suspending judgment (epoché) and moves eventually towards clinical decision-making. This experiential workshop will examine Buddhist, existential, and phenomenological theory relevant to psychotherapy supervision. The workshop includes a live demonstration of psychotherapy supervision. After the demonstration, there will be a brief discussion of how the theory discussed earlier was applied in the demonstration and may be applicable in other psychological traditions.
