Parks incorporates contemporary musical styles such as hip-hop, electronic music, and indie rock into his complex playing and his stylistically diverse compositions. Today, he is constantly busy as the bandleader of various ensembles and a sought-after studio musician.

This makes it all the more delightful that Aaron Parks is coming to Cologne’s Funkhaus for two concerts with the WDR Big Band. This marks Parks’ second collaboration with the Big Band— this time in the intimate atmosphere of a jazz club. Just like the first time, in January 2024, Christian Elsässer will provide the arrangements and lead the project.

Als der US-amerikanische Pianist Aaron Parks 2008 sein Debütalbum beim renommierten Label Blue Note veröffentlichte, war sich die Jazzwelt einig: hier ist ein vielversprechender junger Musiker am Werk, der eine neue amerikanische Jazzszene vertritt. Selbstverständlich verarbeitet Parks zeitgenössische Musikstile wie Hip-Hop, elektronische Musik und Indie-Rock in sein komplexes Spiel und seine stilistisch entsprechend breit gefächerten Kompositionen. Heute ist er als Bandleader verschiedener Formationen und gefragter Studiomusiker quasi dauerbeschäftigt.

Umso größer ist die Freude, dass Aaron Parks für zwei Konzerte mit der WDR Big Band den Weg ins Kölner Funkhaus findet. Es ist bereits die zweite Zusammenarbeit von Parks mit der Big Band – dieses mal allerdings in intimer Jazzclub-Atmosphäre. Wie beim ersten gemeinsamen Konzert im Januar 2024 übernimmt Christian Elsässer diese Arrangements und die Leitung des Projektes.
