Ricardo Valdez Valentine (aka 6LACK) stammt aus der Zone 6 in Atlanta, wo er ab seinem fünften Lebensjahr aufwuchs. Nach ersten Erfahrungen in der Musikindustrie und DIY-Releases auf SoundCloud über Flo Ridas Label International Music Group / Strong Arm Records machte 6LACK online auf seine Musik aufmerksam. 2015 wurde er Teil von Spillage Village, fokussierte sich jedoch auch auf sein Debütalbum „Free 6lack“, das 2016 erschien und auf Platz 34 der Billboard 200 einstieg. Rolling Stone nannte ihn am Ende des Jahres einen von zehn Newcomern des Jahres, die man kennen sollte. Seine mittlerweile vierfach-platin-ausgezeichnete Single „PRBLMS“ sowie die Doppel-Platin-Single „Ex Calling“ ließen 6LACK auf dem Album international noch bekannter werden. Mit seinem zweiten Album „East Atlanta Love Letter“ und dem Doppel-Platin-Song „Pretty Little Fears“ feat. J. Cole machte 6LACK 2018 den internationalen Durchbruch perfekt. Das Album, das in den Top 3 der Billboard 200 landete, stieg in Deutschland auf Platz 44 der Charts ein. In der Schweizer Hitparade belegte „East Atlanta Love Letter“ Platz 19. Neben weiteren Singles und Collabs folgten die „6pc Hot EP“ (2020) sowie das Album „Since I Have a Lover“ (2023). 2026 widmete sich 6LACK seinem nächsten Albumprojekt. Nach mehreren Singles folgte am 22. Mai  die Veröffentlichung seines aktuellen Albums „Love is the New Gangsta“. Auf den insgesamt 15 Tracks des Albums kollaborierte er mit 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Leon Thomas, AZ Chike, Odeal, QUIN und Mereba.
