The College Station Parks and Recreation Department will distribute 1,450 free Texas native trees to residents on Friday, Dec. 12, at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or while supplies last. The inventory includes 1,000 1-gallon trees and 450 15-gallon trees.
The Texas Native Tree Giveaway supports the city’s environmental efforts, including the Cooling College Station Plan and the Bird City and Tree City USA initiatives. Planting trees from mid-October through December is ideal for the area’s climate, helping cool neighborhoods, support wildlife, and enhance local yards.
Supplies are limited, and lines may form early. The limit is one tree per vehicle, and a College Station resident must be present. A state ID, driver’s license, or utility bill with a current College Station address is required.
The event is hosted by College Station Parks and Recreation, the Conservation Advisory Group, and Trees for Houston.
