- **Event Description**: Become a certified Mental Health First Aider and help your friends, family & community.About this EventThis course is offered FREE through a grant to anyone who Lives in the seven-county region known as the Brazos Valley.This course is for adults - you must be 18 years or older to attend. Registration open to 30 participants. If you have experienced a recent trauma or loss to suicide it is advisable to attend MHFA at a later date.Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use challenge or experiencing a crisis and connect them to resources that can help. It offers a 3-year certification.Here are the steps to receive your certification:1. Pre-work: Pre-test and opinions quiz2. Instructor Led Training (ILT): The class is from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. This time includes a couple short breaks and one hour lunch break.3.
