This year, waves of American flags are once again flying high at two locations: Dick Mazza’s General Store in Colchester and Charlebois Truck Parts in Milton. Each flag carries a personalized plaque, paying tribute to a veteran, community hero, or loved one, creating a powerful display of gratitude and remembrance.

Since its inception, Flags for Heroes has raised over $23,000, which has been reinvested into the community through initiatives such as youth leadership programs, scholarships, disaster relief, blood drives, community food pantries, and contributions to projects led by other local nonprofits.

“It’s a deeply moving sight,” said Flags For Heroes Chair Chuck Ginsburg. “Each flag represents someone whose dedication and courage made a lasting impact. As the sun sets and the flags ripple in the breeze, it’s a reminder of the strength and heart of our community.”

Every year, the Rotary hosts a Veterans Day Celebration as part of this project, honoring veterans and community leaders alike. This year’s event continues that tradition, featuring honorary speakers, musical tributes, and participation from local veterans’ groups and community organizations.

The Flags for Heroes project goes beyond honoring military service; it celebrates all who serve their communities: veterans, first responders, teachers, medical workers, essential workers, and everyday neighbors who make a difference.
