The March 2026 pick is author Patmeena Sabit's debut novel (Crown, $29.00). Featuring a compelling mystery and a nuanced, milti-character point of view, Good People follows a family of hard working refugees who's lives are turned upside down by an unthinkable tragedy. Can't make it? Order your copy of Good People online This event will take place at Books & Books in Coconut Grove. RSVP is free, but please only register if you intend to join us as space is limited. This is an authorless event, and please come prepared to discuss the novel.About the Book:Zorah Sharaf could do no wrong. Zorah Sharaf brought shame upon her family. What’s the truth? Depends on who you ask.The Sharaf family is the picture of success. Prosperous, rich, happy. They came to this country as refugees with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. And now, after years of hard work, they live in the most exclusive neighborhood, their growing family attending the most prestigious schools. Zorah, the eldest daughter, is the apple of her father’s eye. When an unthinkable tragedy strikes, everyone is left reeling and the family is thrust into the court of public opinion. There is talk that behind closed doors the Sharafs’ happy household was anything but. Did the Sharaf family achieve the American dream? Or was the image of the model immigrant family just a façade?Like a literary game of ping-pong, Good People compels the reader to reconsider what might have happened even on the previous page. Told through a kaleidoscope of perspectives, it is a riveting, provocative, and haunting story of family—sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, and the communities that claim us as family in difficult times.About the AuthorPatmeena Sabit was born in Kabul a few years after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. When she was a month old, her family fled the conflict and became refugees in Pakistan, joining the millions of other Afghans that had sought refuge there. They later moved to the United States and she grew up in Virginia. She currently lives in Toronto.About the HostKatherine Wakefield is a native Miamian and lifelong book lover. She was a part-time bookseller while in college studying music, and after a fifteen-year sojourn in Germany teaching English and voice, she returned to Miami and to putting books into the hands of eager readers. She marked her tenth year of employment at Books and Books this past December, having worn many hats including, but not limited to, OG staff at the Arsht and Coconut Grove locations, merchandiser, event host, offsite bookseller, storybook reader, and general bookslinger. And, up next, book club leader. She finds the most rewarding aspect of working at Books and Books is being in the company of such excellent, interesting people who contribute immeasurably to the vibrancy and well-being of literary Miami https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events10/banners/9ed27a70-1078-11f1-b205-49d23285143a-rimg-w490-h740-dcbeded3-gmir.jpg
