What if, on your way home from the pub in Seascale, you turned left instead of right and went on an accidental odyssey travelling around the Irish Sea to end up exactly where you started, just more deeply rooted to the place you love?

The Long Way Home is a lovesong to Cumbria’s ancient Celtic roots. Cumbrian composer Dave Camlin’s spellbinding songs will take you on a sonic journey to meet Welsh poets, wild-eyed Irish druids, mythical islands and Cumbrian goddesses. 

Inspired by a time when the Irish Sea connected us to our Celtic neighbours (rather than dividing us), through Dave’s music these ancient spirits come to life and start to sing again, speaking of a deep sense of connection to the land, to this place, and to each other.

Woven between the songs are Jessie McMeekin’s imaginative retellings of traditional folk tales: a shape-shifting Welsh bard, an impulsive Irish giant and his resourceful wife, the last magician-king on the Isle of Man and a notorious Cumbrian woman and her daughters who were all turned to stone…

Together the songs and stories navigate us safely round the edges of the Irish Sea. And, like all journeys, the final destination is a deeper connection to this place we call home.
