As dusk falls, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about the European Nightjar, a well-camouflaged bird that becomes active at night. Listen out for its distinctive churring call and the sound of wing clapping as it defends its territory, searches for insects and attracts a mate.During the walk, our knowledgeable leader will share insights into the behaviour and habitat of these fascinating birds. You’ll also learn about the Nightjar’s remarkable migration, travelling all the way from Africa each year to breed on Surrey’s heathland.This relaxed evening walk offers a great chance to experience the sights and sounds of the heath at dusk while learning more about one of our most unusual summer visitors.This walk is one of four walks we are offering in June and July. Please only book to attend one of the walks. They are very popular and we would like as many people as possible to have the opportunity to hear (and maybe even see!) the nightjars.Important information:The walk is approximately 2 miles on mostly sandy tracks with some minor obstacles and steps. Walking boots are recommended. We will walk at a gentle pace with lots of opportunities to stop and ask questions.This walk is aimed at adults (18+ years old). Unfortunately this site is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with limited mobility.
