The Seagull

"The Seagull is a play about people trying to work out how to live — and how to keep going when things don’t turn out as expected. Some of the characters are young, full of ideas and urgency, desperate to make something new and to be taken seriously. Others are further along, holding on to reputation, routine, or a sense of who they’ve always been, while quietly fearing that time might be running out. Everyone wants to be seen — in their work, in their relationships, or simply as themselves — and much of the play’s humour and pain comes from how often those needs are misunderstood or ignored.Chekhov called The Seagull a comedy, and that comedy lives not in jokes, but in recognition: people talking past each other, clinging to the wrong things, insisting on dignity while making very human mistakes. Alongside the laughter sit regret, unreturned love, ambition, and the slow realisation that life doesn’t pause while we’re deciding what to do. We hope you feel welcomed into this world — one that is sometimes awkward, sometimes funny, sometimes uncomfortable — and that you recognise something of yourself in the struggle to be heard, to matter, and to keep choosing life, even when it doesn’t go to plan."
