A Right-Brain Drawing Workshop

What if the problem isn’t that you can’t draw — but that no one ever taught you how to see?

This three-hour beginner drawing workshop is inspired by the perceptual drawing methods explored in Betty Edwards’ Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.

Designed especially for the person who says “I can’t draw,” this workshop isn’t about artistic talent or creating a perfect picture. It’s about slowing down, quieting the part of the mind that wants to label everything, and learning to see lines, shapes, spaces and relationships in a completely different way.

Throughout the morning, we’ll move through a series of guided drawing exercises designed to challenge the way you normally see, including upside-down drawing, contour and edge exercises, negative-space drawing, and observational drawing. We’ll begin with a simple drawing before any instruction and return to drawing again after exploring these techniques so you can experience the difference for yourself.

No previous drawing experience is necessary. In fact, this workshop was created with beginners in mind.

Your workshop includes:
Three hours of guided instruction and drawing practice
All drawing materials
Your own sketchbook
A take-home drawing supply kit
Guided exercises you can continue practicing at home
A relaxed, supportive environment with no pressure to “be an artist”

You’ll leave with your drawings, your sketchbook, your drawing supplies, and—hopefully—a very different answer the next time you hear yourself say:

“I can’t draw.”
