In this interesting talk, John Foley will go into detail on how to get life into any outdoor space. 

From small window boxes to hanging baskets, DIY wooden box planters to galvanised pots and tubs, right through to impressive feature urns, and large pots that flank a grand entrance… 

Whatever container or space you are working with, John will go into much detail about the hows, whats, wheres and whens of container planting. 

Topics discussed will include…

Different container types - materials, sizes, depths, positions.

Plants – How to pick the best plants for specific containers, your aspects (sunny or shady spots), as well as seasonal plant selections.

Plant combinations – to achieve certain styles or designs. Perhaps you want to create a rock garden in one container, and some topiary in another, whilst learning how to create a striking summer hanging basket at an entrance. 

What to plant - when and where for the best impact and success. 

What you’ll need to get started, in terms of soil, compost, tools and more.

How to maintain your plants and containers – tips, tricks, feeding, pruning & protecting.

Underplanting - for pots that contain trees or shrubs, and the benefits of this technique, visually and practically.
