General Information:
Pine Mountain Music proudly presents the first ever Pine Mountain Music School! The camp welcomes individuals who want to learn instruments and singing in the mountain style as well as the history and evolution of the music of our area. Situated in historic downtown Clintwood, Virginia, the camp welcomes youth and adults ages 8 and above to sign-up for instrument classes! There will also be a group class for students under the age of 8 with musical activities and art! Tuition is $100 for the week and a limited number of scholarships are available for those under the age of 18. Pine Mountain Music School will be held on the grounds of the historic White Star building and take place July 28-August 1. Daily arrival and drop-off times will be between 8 and 9 each morning. Dismissal and pick-up will be at 4:30 in the afternoon. Classes begin at 9 in the morning promptly leading into activities scheduled from 10:30 to 11:30. Lunch will be provided between 11:30 and 1:00 in the afternoon with classes beginning again afterwards. Second classes will be followed by group jams and workshops. To celebrate our very first year, we will be offering group classes in mountain banjo, traditional fiddle, old-timey dulcimer, flat-pick guitar, and finger-style guitar. All skill levels are welcome! Limited numbers of loaner instruments are available during the week. We encourage students to bring their own instruments! Master artist in residence will be renowned local guitarist and singer/songwriter Jimmy “Blaine” Mullins who will present a concert during the week. There will be opportunities for extra-curricular activities each evening including square-dances, painting, field trips, concerts, and jams. The week will conclude with a recital and concert Friday evening! We’re very appreciative of support from several friends and community partners! We welcome further sponsors and community volunteers to help with scholarships and activities during our very first year of the camp!
