- **Event Description**: Come help pick up trash along Mill Creek Parkway. Some may prefer to work on Friday April 17, and that is fine. If any groups want to commit to cleaning a specific section, please comment what crossroads you will clean between and specify if the east side of the road, west side, or both sides.

We will fill bags until they are too heavy to carry and then tie them off and leave them wherever it gets full- along the edge of the road where the gravel meets the grass, safely away from the pavement. The City of Clinton is wonderfully supportive and picks up the bags after we are finished.

Safety is always our #1 concern. It is important to wear bright colors or safety vests. Good walking shoes or boots, long pants and work gloves are encouraged.

Working in groups of 3 or 4 typically works best. One can work the edge of the road, one towards the fence, and the others between then, working together to sweep across an area.

Youth are always welcome to help, but we do recommend middle school age and older for safety reasons. I encourage all groups of youth to have an adult with them. It is a good idea for the adult to be the one working closest to the road. Some of the area from road to adjacent fence are quite broad, so young legs covering all that ground can be a real plus.

Mill Creek can easily be divided up into sections if using crossroads, bridges, and driveway entrances as the dividing lines between sections as well as places to park. It is important to try to park well off the traveled portion of the road if possible. Field entrances work well for this. My preferred system is to work walking against traffic (so it is easy to look up and see approaching traffic) from the end of one section to the next. Then carefully cross the roadway and work against traffic back to your vehicle. Then you can relocate your vehicle to another section.

You will be able to tell if a section has been picked up by the presence of trash bags along the road. 

There is no commitment, minimum with time, or even specific time helpers need to be available. I post when I expect to be there and I’ll stay at it until the job is done. My plan will be to work 8am until 5 or so and then resume the next day around the same time.

This has been an All-Weather event in the past. If the weather ends up being really bad, we will consider rescheduling to a later weekend, but it is easier to do the work before the grass gets too long, so earlier is better. Wind is the greatest problem, so barring strong wind, I plan to be out.
