- **Event Description**: The Bosque Museum is proud to announce the opening of its newest permanent exhibit, The Lomax Legacy. The exhibit will culminate over three years of work, and will grand open to the public the weekend of March 6-8.

John Avery Lomax grew up in Meridian. His family came to Texas from Mississippi like so many other families did after the Civil War. The Lomaxes arrived in Meridian in 1869. As a boy, John would hear the cowboys singing their trail songs. He eventually turned that childhood experience into a lifelong project of recording music of the American South. Recording became a family affair, and when son, Alan, started a radio show in England after World War II, playing the recordings of his family, young musicians like became influenced. The Beatles and Eric Clapton, among many other British bands of the 1950s and 1960s list the Lomax Recordings as a major influence on their work. 

The new exhibit tells the Lomax story through photographs, stories, and interactive stations. Lomax recorded much of his music outdoors and on front porches across the South, and the exhibit’s replica front porch will transport guests to that era.

The Bosque Museum has been working with MuseWork, an exhibit design firm out of Austin, to create the new space, and Museum Fabrication Group to build the exhibit up at their workshop in Denton.

The exhibit will open to the public on Friday, March 6th. In celebration of the opening of the exhibit, the museum’s traditional Free First Saturdays are being expanded through March 8th to the entire weekend.
