Free obstetric emergency simulation training for rural Florida providers.About this EventAbout This TrainingWhat happens when a pregnant patient walks through the emergency department door and there is no OB on call, no labor and delivery unit down the hall, and the nearest hospital is an hour away? For rural nurses and EMS providers, that is not a hypothetical — it is Tuesday. The Obstetrical Transitions of Care course was built for exactly those moments. This is a one-day, hands-on simulation training that puts you inside realistic obstetric emergency scenarios, alongside your nursing and EMS colleagues, in the actual environment where you work. No lecture hall in a city far from home. No cost. Just expert training, delivered directly to your community. https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events8/banners/45eceb60-a4d5-11f1-8345-8160f1306c66-rimg-w1200-h675-dc080808-gmir.jpg What to ExpectYour training day is structured as a morning of focused didactic instruction followed by an afternoon of immersive, team-based simulation. You will spend the morning building clinical knowledge across the most critical obstetric emergencies your team encounters, then spend the afternoon putting that knowledge to work in high-fidelity scenarios that mirror the real thing.Who Should AttendThis training is open to providers at rural Florida hospitals without a dedicated labor and delivery unit and the EMS agencies serving those communities. This session is limited to 20 participants: 10 seats for Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Emergency Department staff, and 10 seats for EMS providers (EMTs and Paramedics).Spots fill quickly. Each scenario follows a patient from EMS field response through emergency department delivery and into postpartum complications — so you experience the full arc of an obstetric emergency, not just isolated tasks. Structured debriefing after each scenario gives your team the space to reflect, communicate, and sharpen the instincts that make a difference when seconds matter. What You Will Walk Away WithBy the end of the day, you will be able to:Recognize perinatal emergencies in both pre-hospital and in-hospital settingsDemonstrate interprofessional care for managing obstetric emergenciesExplain available telehealth resources and the referral process within your communityAll participants receive Continuing Education (CE) credits upon completion.About the ProgramThe Obstetrical Transitions of Care initiative is developed and delivered by USF Health's Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS) in collaboration with the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative (FPQC) and the Florida Center for Emergency Medical Services (FL-CEMS), with support from the Florida Department of Health.Stronger teams. "description": "Many women and newborns among Florida’s 23.6 million residents have limited access to direct medical and obstetrical care, especially those living in rural communities. As the number of hospitals with maternity units continues to decline, local emergency departments and EMS teams are increasingly the first point of contact for pregnant patients experiencing complications. This program was developed to meet that reality head-on, bringing expert faculty, high-fidelity simulation equipment, and hands-on clinical training directly to the nursing and EMS teams serving rural counties across Florida, at no cost.Obstetrical Transitions of Care is a no-cost, statewide simulation training initiative that goes where the need is greatest. Developed by theUSF Health Center for Advanced Medical Learning (CAMLS)in collaboration with theFlorida Perinatal Quality Collaborative (FPQC)and theFlorida Center for Emergency Medical Services (FL-CEMS), with support from the Florida Department of Health, this program sends expert faculty and high-fidelity simulation equipment directly to rural facilities, so nursing and EMS teams can train in the environments where they actually work. The initiative also incorporates Florida’sTelehealth Maternity Care Program, ensuring that providers are equipped not only to respond to obstetric emergencies, but to connect patients with ongoing prenatal and postpartum care available at no cost."
