Working in clay, color, and pattern, Aliberti creates art tile for architectural and public art installations throughout the region, including *Strive for Harmony*, the vibrant mural that anchors the West 65th Street RTA station. For one night, he is opening his studio to share how a ceramic tile installation moves from first idea to finished work.

What to Expect

5:30 PM – Doors Open

Sign in, enjoy food and drinks, and connect with fellow architects and designers inside the Hildebrandt Building, a former sausage factory now home to a thriving community of artists and makers.

Pattern, Process + Place

Hear how Aliberti approaches ceramic art tile as both artwork and architecture. Through two project case studies and examples, one rooted in historic preservation and one developed for a new building, he will walk attendees through project analysis, concept development, process sketches, pattern studies, and the decisions that lead to a final design.

Studio Demonstration

Step inside Aliberti’s working studio to see how clay becomes tile. Learn about the tools, techniques, glazing, firing, and fabrication processes behind his work, and how ceramic tile can bring durability, color, texture, and story into the built environment.

Guided Sketching & Tile Design Session

Using Aliberti’s tile work as inspiration, participants will sketch and create in tile pattern, repetition, border conditions, and ornamental motifs, exploring how small units can build larger architectural compositions. Drawing becomes a tool for seeing how detail, craft, and character shape place.

Ceramic tile has long held a special place in architecture. It is durable, expressive, and deeply tied to both ornament and utility, able to carry color, pattern, and meaning across generations. From historic façades and interiors to contemporary transit stations and public art, tile gives buildings a human scale and creates touchpoints we experience up close, on the sidewalk and in daily life.

This is not a lecture you sit through, but one you will walk through and we walk through Gregory's process in his studio space.

And you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for how pattern, process, and place come together in ceramic art tile, and how craft continues to enrich the buildings and public spaces that shape our city.
