In 2018 it is essential that we put our money where our values are, and prioritize the redistribution of white wealth. We invite you to consider a monthly contribution to a fund that will be distributed between Black Lives Matter Cleveland, the Committee of 500 Years of Dignity & Resistance, and HOLA Ohio.
How You Can Support!
To kick-off our commitment to this work, we’re hosting a Phone Banking Pizza Party on Thursday, February 22nd from 6:00-8:30pm at Pilgrim Church in Tremont. That evening we’ll be calling members of the SURJ Northeast Ohio network and beyond to invite them to financially support the incredible work of these three organizations through monthly donations.
--> Why go through SURJ for a monthly contribution, instead of going directly to these organization’s websites?
SURJ provides an accountability network that will both remind you to make monthly contributions and also provide resources as to why it is essential as white folks to give our money to organizations led by People of Color. If you'd like to contribute directly to these organizations' websites and simply want a reminder each month to do so, we can help with that, too!
--> Why will SURJ NEO give to these three organizations?
We have developed accountability relationships with these three organizations through racial justice organizing efforts in Northeast Ohio. We encourage you to give your money to other organizations led by People of Color, as well, and our goal is to grow the number of organizations that will receive monthly donations from this fund.
-->How do I know all my money is going to these three organizations?
We have two treasurers that carefully track donations and funds. These treasurers are accountable to the larger group of SURJ NEO, our fiscal sponsor, and the public.
Please join us if you enjoy talking with others about ways that white folks can leverage our access to resources in support racial justice!

Donating funds to organizations led by People of Color through monthly donations is just a starting point in redistributing white wealth. It is an invitation to think more deeply on the realities of structural and systemic racism, and how the momentum of over 250+ years of racism created the economic disparities of today. How can we build on individual giving, to intervene on the same level that systemic inequity was created? We want to lift up the reality of class, and acknowledge the different financial positions we all find ourselves in. This event does not imply all white people are wealthy -- rather, that after centuries of oppression and theft from communities of color, white communities hold a hugely disproportionate amount of the country's wealth. If you cannot donate at this time, there are countless other ways to get involved in the fight for racial justice. Visit our website to learn how! www.surjneo.org
