Along the way, you'll meet important figures from Cleveland’s past, portrayed by actors and actresses, who will share their stories with you.About the tour: In the early 19th century two competing settlements vied for prestige and investment on both sides of the Cuyahoga River; Cleveland to the east and Ohio City (or City of Ohio as it was known at its 1818 founding) to the west. Ohio City’s early civic, religious, ethnic, and commercial history was significant. Its historic architecture and the diversity of the urban environment has brought new vitality to the neighborhood.The Market District Route centers on the historic core of Ohio City, anchored by West Side Market and landmarks like St. Patrick Church and St. Ignatius High School. Surrounding streets lined with 19th-century buildings tell the story of a vibrant immigrant community, where historic storefronts and institutions continue to shape a lively, connected neighborhood.Parking:Street parking is available on both the north and south sides of Bridge Avenue.Tour Meet-Up:On the sidewalk across the street from St. Patrick Church - 3602 Bridge AvenueRESERVATIONS are requested but not required, walk-ups the day of tour are welcomed.TAKE A HIKE® is a program of Historic Gateway Neighborhood Corporation with generous support from Ohio & Erie Canalway and Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.TAKE A HIKE® offers 45 unique in-person guided tours from May through December.
