First Pitch of Summer, presented by Progressive and KeyBank
First Pitch of Summer, presented by Progressive and KeyBank and hosted by Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, kicks off the 2019 MLB All-Star Game community events by celebrating Cleveland’s rich baseball heritage. On June 8, we're inviting 1,000 community members to "pitch" a baseball from the historic League Park to Progressive Field. In celebration of the mid-summer classic, a baseball will travel 3.1 miles, tossed from one person to the next, to be used in the ceremonial first pitch in the Cleveland Indians vs. New York Yankees game that afternoon.
"Bases" will be set up along the pitch route. These will serve as gathering spaces with refreshments, restrooms, entertainment, and parking. Please request a base when registering, as space is limited at each location. Please note: bussing will be provided from each base to League Park for the festival, and back to the base for the pitch.
A festival at League Park will kick off the event at 10am, featuring music, entertainment, health resources, baseball-themed games, vendors, food trucks, Baseball Heritage Museum tours and autograph sessions with Cleveland Indians legends.
Participation in the pitch relay and the League Park festival are both FREE and open to the public. Please note, you do not need to register to attend the League Park festival, only to participate in the pitch relay. Those that register to participate in the pitch relay will receive a t-shirt, giveaways, access to festival entertainment, and two tickets to a Cleveland Indians game in September.
All pitch relay participants must be able to walk at least a half mile from the Base drop-off zone. In an effort to be inclusive, attendees who are not able to walk a half mile can be placed at locations closer to the Bases. Please list any mobility concerns under "special considerations" during registration.
