ART/Ventures: featuring Michael Loderstedt
*ART-Ventures is a Saturday morning program at Worthington Yards where artists talk about their work and then another trip to another local gallery or artist studio occurs. These presentations provide a more in-depth insider look into the artist process and ideas.
We will first meet at Worthington Yards to hear about Michael Loderstedt's 40-foot wall installation that uses on-demand digital jacquard weaving technology, and molded and CNC-fabricated sculptural insets.
Michael has created a panoramic work investigating recent changes in our Lake Erie ecosystem. Photographing the stone piles set along the old Cuyahoga River from a kayak to reference the geologic time of our region’s Ice Age past, this seven-panel set of digital weavings are presented as film negatives, suggestive of a night river vista or even a reversal of the natural order. Within the cutaway niches, some of the region’s most prolific alien species; Japanese Knotweed, Round Gobys, Purple Loosestrife, Quagga Mussels and a European Starling are referenced in cast resin and colored acrylic. These events are generally scheduled 10-noon. Coffee and bagels served.
Our second stop will be at the Cleveland Print Room where he will talk about his work Night Flight in the Anthropocene exhibition. This new new body of work compares the parasitic cowbird to an ancestor that was left on a doorstep through the medium of photography, including the use of alternative processes.
