Event Description:
Join us for a virtual Slovenian cooking class featuring members of the Slovenian Union of America (SUA), highlighting two treasured Slovenian and Slovenian-American baked traditions.

As a brief introduction, Joe Valencic, President of the Slovenian Union of America, will speak about SUA’s long and rich history of preserving Slovenian culinary traditions through the publication of Slovenian-American cookbooks.

Cookie Maxin will demonstrate how to make kolački — delicate, festive pastries made from a tender, butter- or cream cheese–based dough and filled with sweet fruit preserves, nuts, or cheese. Kolački are beloved across Slovenian-American households and often prepared for holidays, celebrations, and special family gatherings.

Berni Blatnik will demonstrate how to make žlinkrofi, a classic Slovenian dumpling that is versatile, economical, and deeply comforting. Traditionally filled with meat, these dumplings can be served in soup, browned in butter, or frozen for long-term storage—making them as practical as they are delicious.
