February Book Choice: So Thrilled For You by Holly Bourne

Our February choice is Holly Bourne’s So Thrilled For You; a sharp, darkly comic novel about friendship, motherhood, and the secrets women carry, set against the backdrop of a single chaotic baby shower. The story unfolds during a sweltering summer day at Nicki’s countryside home, where she is eight months pregnant and hosting a shower planned by her perfectionist friend Charlotte. Their old university circle—Nicki, Charlotte, Lauren, and Steffi—reunites, but beneath the pastel decorations and polite smiles lies a minefield of resentment, grief, and rivalry.

Bourne blends psychological tension, biting humour, and mystery to create a narrative where every character is flawed, vulnerable, and painfully real. The novel interrogates the social performance of motherhood and the cost of “having it all,” making it both gripping and thought-provoking.
