About the event

STL 101: St. Louis' International Food Scene
We will have a food writer, dining critic, and TEDx speaker, Holly Fann and some of the local foreign-born food entrepreneurs speak.

About this Event

Our next STL101 dives into the vibrant international food scene of St. Louis—a city where flavor, culture, and entrepreneurship come together on every plate.

Our featured presenter, Holly Fann, is a celebrated food writer, dining critic, and TEDx speaker based in St. Louis. Her work has appeared in Food & Wine, Eater, Thrillist, Plate, St. Louis Magazine, Sauce, and The Riverfront Times. A proud member of Equity at The Table, Holly brings a deep, thoughtful lens to food, culture, and community.

During this session, Holly will explore:

• Must-try spots in St. Louis for global flavors

• How the St. Louis food scene has evolved in recent years

• How our local dining scene stacks up against other culinary cities

You’ll also meet some local foreign-born entrepreneurs, both seasoned and new on the scene who will share their inspiring stories and passion for food:

Qui Tran - Mai Lee & Nudo House

A beloved St. Louis culinary figure, Qui came to the U.S. as a baby refugee from Vietnam. After surviving polio and growing up in his mother's kitchen, he now runs Mai Lee (St. Louis’ first Vietnamese restaurant) and the ever-popular Nudo House, blending tradition and innovation in every bowl

Jose De Leon & Maria Barragan - Pan Pa' Ti Bakery

This family-owned Venezuelan artisan bakery began at the Lake St. Louis Farmers Market and now operates a thriving storefront. They bake over 15 varieties of traditional Venezuelan breads daily—each one handmade from scratch, offering a taste of home in every bite.

Adjo Honsou - Fufu N Sauce

FUFU n' Sauce offers authentic West African cuisine through a food truck, catering services, and signature line of spices and teas. Created by Adjo Honsou, an award-winning chef of season 3 PBS’s The Great American Recipe, Fufu N Sauce West African dishes have captured hearts—and taste buds—across the country
