Join the MSA Disabilities & Carers Department for our free beginner Auslan classes at Monash University!Led by Terence Childs, these classes are designed for complete beginners, so you do not need any previous Auslan experience. Across five weeks, you will learn the foundations of Auslan in a friendly, supportive and welcoming environment.Classes will run every Friday from Week 4 to Week 8, with two session times available:• 10:00 am–12:00 pm• 2:00 pm–4:00 pmPlaces are free but limited, so registration is essential. Come along, learn a valuable new skill and help us build a more accessible and inclusive Monash community!Please ensure you are able to arrive on time or 5 minutes early. Late arrivals will interrupt the class for all participants and instructor.Please note that this is a beginners class, however you are permitted to attend multiple to build upon your skills as the trainor will tailor the contentGeneral info:There will be moderate artificial lighting.There will be no designated quiet space for this event, however the event itself runs for the most part in silence! However, please feel free to step away at any time. If you need help finding the lounge, one of the office bearers or committee members can guide you.There will be seating for this event.The instructor for these sessions is Deaf and communicates via Auslan and lip reading. You will not be able to wear a mask while speaking to them, social distancing will be encouraged and you are welcome to wear a mask when not speaking!There will be staff present who are aware of hidden disabilities and trained in the Sunflower Scheme.
