Join us for a free screening of the Roots So Deep documentary, which explores the relationship between farmers’ management practices and the environment. By converting from conventional, continuous grazing systems (where grass is often overgrazed) to adaptive grazing systems (which allows for a long rest period between grazing events), life in the soil explodes, wildlife returns to the farm, and forage quantity and quality improve exponentially. This exciting documentary focuses on different management practices at neighboring farms, with scientists collecting data on everything from soil organic matter, insects, birds, plant diversity, etc. After the data is collected and shown to the farmers, poignant conversations ensue that challenge farmers to consider new ways of management beyond the traditional mindset that has been handed down through the generations. This showing is free to the public, with snacks available for purchase.
Hosted by the Western PA Grazing Conference Committee: USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service(NRCS), Jefferson, Clarion, Clearfield Conservation Districts, NW & SW PA Project Grass, Penn State Extension, Local Farmers, Grant support from PA Grazing Lands Coalition.
