In this eight-hour class, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Search & Rescue deputies will teach essential preparedness concepts and basic survival skills for the Pacific Northwest wilderness.
This class is designed for outdoor enthusiasts, hunters, hikers, and campers who frequent Clackamas County's backcountry. Participants will learn to plan appropriately, avoid common mistakes, and use technologies old and new to avoid — and survive — being lost or stranded in the Oregon wilderness.
The instructors have years of training experience and firsthand knowledge in countless survival scenarios in the Mt. Hood National Forest and elsewhere. Using classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations and activities, they'll cover topics including:
• Planning, preparation and survival essentials
• Navigation/GPS
• Shelter-building
• Fire-building
• Wilderness first aid
• Natural survival aids found in the Pacific Northwest
