“The future survival of humankind depends upon returning to a right relationship to nature. The need is both inner and outer. In this endeavor, the animal soul is our most dependable guide."
– Ladson Hinton, “A Return to the Animal Soul”
This class is an invitation to find new personal pathways through the medicine of animals. In the Native American way, medicine is also understood as any power that improves one’s connection to the Great Mystery and to all life. This kind of power comes from the idea of unity, and of each being having within itself a part of all other beings. It is the law of Oneness.
The call of the wild is more than the calling to come back to nature; it is the call of beauty, and it is the call to understand and follow the messages offered by nature. It is the call of our spirit animals. They are our guides on how to “walk in balance on the Earth Mother,” and their lessons are healing messages for body, mind and soul. Gaining understanding from animals, we find lessons of being human, being vulnerable, and seeking wholeness with all that is.
This class will combine the creative process of SoulCollage® with the invocation of animal medicine, in combination with the Chakra System, to create spirit animal cards connected to each individual chakra. These cards will be arranged to create a visual animal totem to serve as a healing guiding map to one’s journey.
SoulCollage® is a gentle and intuitive way of exploring one’s life journey, creating space for self-discovery and self-acceptance through collage images.
Chakras were first described over 4,000 years ago in India. They are centers for the reception, assimilation, and transmission of life energies. Most yoga schools distinguish seven major chakras (3 chakras of matter, 1 connector chakra, and 3 chakras of spirit), each with a specific location in the “subtle” or non-physical body. The seven major chakras correspond to the seven major nerve ganglia of the spinal column.
Animal totems are symbols of specific kinds of energy. The animal becomes a portal for a specific force of the invisible, spiritual realm manifesting within one’s own life. The characteristics of these totems will reveal much about one’s innate powers and abilities. By studying the totem and learning to merge with it, one is able to call upon its archetypal energy whenever needed.
Join us for a spiritual experience, as we explore the healing journey with animals, images, intuitive collages, self-reflection, and group discussions, in a creative environment that fosters wisdom and truth-telling. This class is open to anybody with any level of artistic skill.
