"description": "The Story Behind Generation NOW \rFounded by Renika J. Smiley in 2015, our program began 4 years ago as the LinkedIn Networking Happy Hour event. Renika developed the idea of hosting Happy Hour networking events in local bars throughout the city to create a new platform for young professionals. As registrations began to swell, these events found their home primarily at Igby’s. At these events, guest attendance usually ranged from 40-75 people, but at times filled the room to capacity. In just three short but incredible years, this event has grown from being hosted at a local bar to being hosted in Fortune 500 company event spaces with an attendance of over 200 people. \rGeneration NOW Cincinnati Network has created partnerships and sponsorships with P&G, Nielsen Company, Fifth Third Bank, Kroger, RDI, and the Regional Chamber of Commerce for professional development and training opportunities. Generation NOW has trained and educated over 5,000 Young Professionals from Cincinnati, Chicago, Louisville, Washington D. C., and Indianapolis. Generation NOW also has highlighted over 350 young professionals with awards for their industry accomplishments. Lastly, our organization has received two government proclamations by Mayor Cranley, one for Believe Youth Conference in 2016 and another for our work in the city to support young professionals (2016). \rOUR MISSION \rTo identify, build rapport with, and leverage Cincinnati’s diverse and inclusive workforce by accessing, celebrating, and programming on behalf of young professionals and youth with a focus on mentoring, networking, professional development and training, and career placement. \rOUR VISION Leveraging a diverse and inclusive workforce to drive engagement with corporate entities to ensure the vibrancy of the Greater Cincinnati business community for future generations. \r\rStory behind Top 10 list \rIn Cincinnati, many young professionals believe they are not receiving the recognition they need and find it difficult to further develop their personal and professional brands. This has led to a growing epidemic of young professionals who are moving to other cities to pursue their careers and seek acknowledgement. We believe one of the solutions in solving this problem is to show young professionals that they can, in fact, make a name for themselves here through Generation NOW by honoring them for their achievements. Nominations for our lists are made by many leaders from various Fortune 500 companies and non-profit organizations. We are able to celebrate these young professionals and provide a platform for their successes and to spur their growth as professionals. Talent recruiters and other HR specialists find this very beneficial to the continued success of these young professionals \r"
