Class Location: 2nd floor, large weaving room Minimum Age: AnyLearn two related styles of historical counted thread embroidery: Blackwork and voided work. "Counted thread" means that you create very even, precise stitches by counting the threads of the fabric like a grid. The stitches are simple lines, but the historical designs from the 1500s and 1600s in Europe are elaborate. You can create the most detailed images just by following a pattern and counting one stitch at a time. We will learn 3 stitches: Backstitch, Double-running stitch, and long-arm cross stitch. You'll start a band sampler in class, which you can complete later at home and turn into a bookmark. You’ll also create your own design or modify an existing one using free software or grid paper.A Minor is welcome to register for this class but must be accompanied by a registered adult.Supplies to Bring:scissors for threadreading glasses if neededpenciltablet or laptop for digital pattern making (grid paper will be available as an alternative)snack and beverages if desired$3 materials fee payable to the instructor at start of class. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class.Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
